This paid subscription is a reaction to the worsening state of affairs regarding the social media platforms artists use to connect with their audience. In addition to having to navigate punishing algorithms on Instagram and Twitter, Patreon takes an enormous cut from my earnings while not allowing NSFW artists to have public content of any kind. Gumroad has no restrictions on NSFW and takes a much smaller cut for essentially the same service, while allowing me to offer free content to my followers. This hopefully might one day mean I make enough money off my subscribers that I can more or less quit social media entirely and just enjoy a fulfilling creator-audience relationship!
